Several special and hyper-connected vehicles presented at the ASTRID User Days
The ASTRID User Days are certainly not a car show, but innovation often goes together with locomotion. That is why car lovers (and there are many of them in the emergency services) will also have plenty of things to discover.
The Zaventem police recently bought – a first in Belgium – two Tesla Model S cars as patrol vehicles. In our neighbouring countries, Tesla cars have already made their appearance in police fleets several years ago, notably in the grand duchy of Luxembourg. At the occasion of the ASTRID User Days, we invite you to come and have a word with the experienced police drivers. Two Tesla S cars, a Belgian one and one from the grand duchy, will be present.
The federal traffic police will present two opposites, i.e. two big Volvo cars from different generations will be on display. The federal police will show a Volvo V90 which, from 2018 onwards, will be a familiar sight on our motorways. And a Volvo 240 Turbo from a private collection, a car already equipped with a built-in Siemens data terminal, will take us back to the early eighties. A vintage BMW motorbike will be displayed in the Radio Museum where old radios from our police services will be shown. If you prefer tracked vehicles, you can attend a demonstration of the new robot of the Civil Defence for the detection of harmful substances. And finally, a mythical surprise vehicle will be displayed on the Airbus-Proximus trade stand.
Outside, 7 vehicles will be on display, including the new “Combi 3.0” of the Antwerp police brigade, the Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 with a mobile ASTRID antenna (MTU), a van fitted out as a mobile radio workshop of the Brussels fire department, a Volvo of the Brussels police, a brand new intervention van of Civil Security and another hyper-connected vehicle fitted out by Thales.
